Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) in association with 100RC, an initiative of Rockefeller Foundation, US (100RC), Surat Climate Change Trust (SCCT) and Film Society of Surat (FSS) has organized Surat Short Film Making Contest 2017 on 'Smart and Resilient Surat'.
Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC)
SMC is a local self-government which has come into being under the Bombay Provincial Municipal Act, 1949. It carries out all the obligatory functions and discretionary functions entrusted by the BPMC Act, 1949 with the mission to make Surat a dynamic, vibrant, beautiful, self-reliant, and sustainable city with all basic amenities, to provide a better quality of life. SMC perceives its role, much beyond, as the principal facilitator and provider of services. Surat is the 4th city in the list of 100 cities selected by Government of India in its Smart Cities Mission. Surat is also one of the 100 cities selected in a Global Network of 100 Resilient Cities Network, an initiative pioneered by Rockefeller Foundation, USA.
Surat Smart City Development Limited (SSCDL)
Surat Smart City Development Limited (SSCDL) is formed as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the implementation of the Smart City projects at the city level. Surat Smart City Development Limited got incorporated on 31st March 2016. Smart Utilization of Surat City's potential for enhancing quality of life for the citizens by providing equal access to best quality physical infrastructure, social infrastructure and mobility through leveraging state of the art technology; thus making surat a futuristic global city with focus on enhancing economy, protecting the ecology and preserving the identity and culture of the city.
100 Resilient Cities (100RC)
100 Resilient Cities - Pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation (100RC) helps cities around the world become more resilient to social, economic, and physical challenges that are a growing part of the 21st century. 100RC provides this assistance through resources for drafting a resilience strategy; access to private sector, public sector, academic, and NGO resilience tools; and membership in a global network of peer cities to share best practices and challenges.
Surat Climate Change Trust (SCCT)
SCCT is a registered city level public trust registered under Bombay Public Trust Act 1950 (Registration No. E-7266/Surat).It is promoted by multiple city and state level stakeholders led by Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC). It includes members from various institutions including Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA), Narmada, Water Resources and Water Supply Department (NWRWS), The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SGCCI) and Academic Instructions (such as SVNIT and CSS). SCCT is one of the first city level multi-stakeholder trusts in India with the mandate to work in areas of Climate Change and Resilience.
Film Society of Surat (FSS)
FSS is a registered film society affiliated to Federation of Film Societies of India, established by veteran film director, Satyajeet Ray. FSS has worked jointly with SMC in screening of films pertaining to freedom movement for people of Surat. FSS is instrumental in bringing films produced by Children Film Society (A unit of Films Division Government of India) to SMC run schools on the regular basis through Primary Schools Board. For last more than three years FSS is regularly showing educational and scientific films and documentaries at Narmad Library. Recently FSS has conducted 3 full day workshop for making Science related films jointly with Vigyan Prasar, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
